Scarlet took a second to think on it and the way Scourge was treating the moment. He realized he didn’t want to fully remove the article of clothing for whatever reason he could only imagine. The echidna knew Scourges were always attached to their jackets, but his friend here seemed more like he was hiding something.
"I think it’s best if you do" He replied "I’m sorry if that makes you uncomfortable, but if I don’t examine every wound and something happens to you. I’ll be one majorly guilt ridden sack of shit"
Those words froze Scourge up. Shadow’s words exactly. He had felt guilty, guilty that he hadn’t been able to keep up with Scourge’s pace. Guilty that Scourge had had to hold back. Scourge had tried to assure him time and again…
There is was again. The blank facade he’d used with Shadow earlier in the day. Mechanically, he removed the jacket, pulling his arms free and folding the fabric neatly before setting it aside.
Guilt… He never wanted to make anyone feel that again. That word weighed so heavily on him, he felt someone had placed cinder blocks on his chest. The coat was off now. Hands rested in his lap, almost in an obedient fashion.
Faded blue eyes rested on Scarlet. “Okay… It’s off.”
"Thank you" He knew that wasn’t easy for him and soon realized why after his eyes caught the additional scars decorating the hedgehog’s arms. Those surely were the reason he was never seen without the garment, but right now they were irrelevant to the situation.
Scarlet opted to ignore them and went off to fetch more bandaging and cleaning supplies.
"Alright, I’m gonna be as careful as I can, just try to relax" The echidna advised and began the task of removing the bandage on his shoulder first. Thankfully what lay hidden behind it wasn’t infection, however it wasn’t particularly good either. But it shouldn’t have been very surprising, considering Scourge’s cleaning habbits. There was no doubt every wound probably looked like this.
"No infection, but the wound looks almost fresh still… and it’s raw" He added "Really raw, Scourge. I think you cleaned it too much"
Scarlet dabbed away the blood and moved onto the next two bandages, removing the front one first and then the back.
